Event Details

The Parent-Child Mother Goose program uses mutually enjoyable activities (songs, rhymes, finger plays and storytelling) to support attachment and interaction between parents (as well as carers, relatives and staff working with young children) and their infants and young children.

These positive relationships are critical for promoting children’s health, well-being and achievement outcomes throughout later life, and form a strong foundation for life.

The program also enables families to form new friendships and neighbourhood connections, and to obtain information about services in a highly supportive manner.

The Australian Institute of Family Studies (AIFS) recognises Parent-Child Mother Goose as an evidence-based program. The Victorian Government's School Readiness Funding Initiative also recognises Parent-Child Mother Goose as suitable for enhancing kindergarten programs for four-year-olds.

Training Workshops for Parent-Child Mother Goose facilitators are taught by accredited trainers.

Workshop participants will:

  • Learn about the Parent-Child Mother Goose philosophy
  • Learn how to run sessions and reach target audiences
  • Learn rhymes, songs and storytelling techniques
  • Receive a collection of resources

Parent-Child Mother Goose Level One Facilitator Training is appropriate for:

  • Educators (Early Childhood, Primary and Special Education)
  • Speech Pathologists
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Physiotherapists
  • Early Childhood Intervention Professionals
  • Maternal and Child Health Nurses
  • Psychologists
  • Playgroup Leaders and Facilitators
  • Children's Librarians

Why two trainees are (often) better than one

Because every Parent-Child Mother Goose program is run by two trained facilitators, we would encourage organisations planning to establish a Parent-Child Mother Goose program to send two participants to a training workshop. At the same time, we certainly welcome most warmly other organisations planning to incorporate aspects of the Parent-Child Mother Goose philosophy and practices into their existing programs.
