Today’s parents can be somewhat overwhelmed by the thought of sending their child to school. To support our prep families during this process, we have arranged a forum with a well respected guest speaker, Chris Daicos. This interactive workshop will encourage parents to build their child’s resilience and help their child to develop skills in social competence, problem solving, independence and optimism. Required skills to successfully navigate school life and beyond.

We are expecting all prep parents to attend the workshop which will run concurrently with your child’s final transition session. Once you have dropped your child to their class at 1.50pm and then your toddler to the child minding (provided free in the school library), you are free to relax and head to the hall for the forum.

The research informs us that a resilient child is one that is socially competent, can problem solve, and has the ability to see a difficulty as a problem that can be worked on, overcome, changed, endured, or resolved in some way; has good self-esteem and autonomy which allows the child to cope successfully with challenges; and is hopeful and optimistic about what tomorrow has in store for them.

Chris’ workshop on Building Resilience is ideally placed as part of our school’s Prep Transition Program. This interactive workshop for parents/carers will leave you reflecting on ways to support your child as they enter Primary School. It will encourage you not ‘to do’ for your child what they can do for themselves.

As a trained social worker and teacher, Chris has extensive experience in working directly with children and adolescents and supporting staff. Chris has facilitated many successful professional development sessions for teachers and parents within the private and public sectors on a range of topics from staff and student welfare to organisational health issues. Chris is also actively involved in the tertiary sector, teaching students in Master of Social Work, Master of Teaching and the Master of Education (Student Wellbeing) courses.
