Ruth Devine, Author and Journalist

Ruth has 3 sons with ADHD. She wrote the Jack McCool series so that her children in particular, and all children, could enjoy an adventure series, where the hero is one that they could look up to, relate to and be inspired. Ruth’s father delighted in spinning bedtime stories featuring the legendary Irish folk hero Finn McCool; stories that mesmerised her as a young girl, – but didn’t do much in getting Ruth to sleep. From those childhood tales, grew this exciting adventure series about Jack McCool, a colourful and quirky modern-day Finn. Join Ruth to learn about this ADHD hero – the challenges he faces at school in the shape of Ms Medusa and the school bully Oscar, and the triumphs he achieves. Ruth will also share the techniques she uses when writing for her young ADHD audience – how she keeps them engaged, and subtly supports their working memory challenges.
