Nutrition Plus welcomes you on a tour of the Hunter Valley, a cultural tour unlike any you will ever experience.
Your tour guide Uncle Paul Gordon, a Senior Ngemba Elder, is widely known throughout New South Wales as a traditional lore man and his knowledge is highly respected and sought after. Throughout the day he will share with you the history, culture and stories of his country, including the traditional values he holds dear:
Lore: spiritual lore, good governance, cultural identity and respect for nature and each other.
Love: is a doing word! Love for the spirit, each other, community, our work and our land.
Look: Look to the spirit, for opportunities and positive outcomes.
Listen: Listen to the spirit, elders, and experts in their field, our community and each other.
Learn: Learn from the spirit, elders, experts, community and each other. Remain open to learn.
Lead: Apply what you have learnt to be a more effective leader in life and business.
After arriving in Wollombi the day will begin with morning tea and a smoking ceremony, followed by a tour of historical rock carving sites. The tour will then depart for the stunning Margan Estate for a 2 course lunch with matching wines, followed by a tour of the beautiful Margan Kitchen Garden led by horticulturist Pat Hansson, who will also explain the story behind Yellow Rock.
We then depart for the last stop of the tour, which will undoubtedly be the highlight of the day. You will be taken to a rare Indigenous rock art painting site, Baiame Cave which is situated on a private Wollombi property and visited by few people from the public. Baiame Cave is of state significance for its association with the main figure depicted in the cave, believed to be Baiame, the creator, the "Father of All", the most important ancestor and lore maker. The painting is representative of the traditional heritage of the Aboriginal people of the Hunter Valley and of NSW.
The day will finish approximately at 4.00pm and you will arrive back in Newcastle by 5.30pm.
