The what, why and how of choosing and installing a habitat box for local species, presented by Janet Wheeler from Living with Wildlife.
There are many reasons to put up a habitat box such as habitat enrichment, and to support and increase biodiversity. 20% of Australian wildlife need a hollow to nest or den in. Hollows can take 100 years to form and many species, such as kookaburras, parrots and cockatoos according to Bird Life Australia, are in decline because suitable hollows to breed in aren’t available.
Following this presentation participants will be able to;
- ·decide the best location for a habitat box
- ·identify species specific boxes to suit their location
- ·understand how to install their preferred box/es
Time: 6:45pm for a 7pm start
Cost: Free for KES members, gold coin donation for non-members.
